The Water Utility Committee serves Section members and water utilities by communicating information in the key areas of legislation, regulation, and improvement. This committee tracks proposed legislation during the Virginia General Assembly's sessions and encourages the participation of the drinking water community in the legislative process. The committee also works with regulatory agencies on proposed regulations and plans, such as the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and the Virginia Department of Health's Office of Drinking Water.

In addition to legislative and regulatory participation, the Water Utility Committee supports efforts to improve all areas of utility performance, including operations, water supply, security, and costs. During the Annual Meeting, the Water Utility Committee hosts a breakfast that provides an opportunity to discuss important issues impacting utilities.

The committee is comprised of eight members representing water utilities, one member from a regulatory agency, and three at-large members. The utility members represent utilities of various sizes and from various parts of Virginia.
