Project WET is a water science and education program for formal and informal educators.

This includes public and private school teachers, water resource professionals, environmental educators, state agencies, and local water and wastewater utilities.

The WET (Water Education Today) curriculum correlates with state and national standards of learning and strongly supports STEM principles. Project WET is a well-known and respected teaching resource for both classroom educators and water utility outreach and communications staff.  Project WET activities are hands-on and engaging to make water education fun. How does Project WET work in Virginia?

The Virginia Section of the American Water Works Association agreed to host Project WET in the spring of 2025 after the program had been dormant in Virginia for a number of years.  Cynthia Barnes, the VA AWWA Training Coordinator, is serving as the Project WET State Coordinator. The Virginia Project WET Coordinator helps organize training opportunities for educators in the state so that they can use the Project WET curriculum to provide formal and informal learning experiences for children of all ages.

Most Educator Trainings are hosted by Facilitators who have considerable experience working with both children and adults in formal or informal environmental education settings. Generally, Educators teach children and Facilitators teach Educators (adults). Facilitators and Educators may only purchase and teach out of books for which they have received training. By limiting the access of teaching materials to trained teachers, Project WET seeks to maintain its reputation as a respected resource for water education throughout the world.

If you have questions, please reach out by email. I look forward to working with you!
