USDA Natural Resources Conservation Services Announcement
The Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS) Source Water Protection Areas (SWPA) Sub-Committee will be meeting in the next few weeks to discuss updates to high-priority areas for source water protection.  The 2018 Farm Bill includes a provision for the protection of source water through targeting conservation practices and including funding for conservation programs.

Please find linked below a USDA NRCS Bulletin with more information and an April 2020 AWWA Journal article that discusses the need and benefit of such programs as well as providing examples of partnerships.

If you believe that your source water watersheds would benefit from these programs we encourage you to contact Tim Mitchell who is VA AWWA representative on the NRCS SWPA Sub-Committee as soon as possible.

Why Young Professional Should Join an AWWA Committee

Members are the lifeblood of AWWA.  It is the involvement and commitment of water industry members that make AWWA work at both the Section and Association levels. The future of AWWA depends on attracting and encouraging young professionals (YPs) to become actively involved in the association and fulfilling our vision of creating a better world through better water. YPs are interested in a meaningful career while making a difference in how the world uses, protects, and preserves this most vital resource.
