AWWA and the Virginia Section celebrate Black History Month
We are thankful for and recognize the many contributions professionals in the Black community have made to the water sector. It is that time of year again! The legislative session is underway, and there are bills that you need to be aware of. Keep an eye out for our weekly Legislative Report emails or go straight to the website and review the bills listed.
Attention Virginia Waterworks Operators: You have an opportunity to contribute to the WPI (formerly ABC) examination content areas!
In order to ensure WPI standardized examinations remain current and relevant for the industry, the Certification Commission for Environmental Professionals (C2EP) and Water Professionals International (WPI) are conducting job analyses in both the Water Treatment and Water Distribution disciplines. Responses to these surveys will be used to build updated operator certification exams, Need-to-Know Criteria, and other important operator certification resources used globally.
There are several incentive opportunities for professionals that complete a survey; full details can be found on WPI’s website.
Save the date for the Annual VWEA/VA AWWA Good Lab Practices Conference. Day one of the event includes workshops and an evening networking reception in the exhibit hall. Day two includes a morning general session and afternoon breakout sessions.

The VWEA / VA AWWA Utility Management Committee invites you to join us in-person or virtually to hear from regional utility leadership on topics that are relevant to their respective regions. Waterworks Regulations (12 VAC 5-590)
Pursuant to Executive Order 19 (2022) and §§ 2.2-4007.1 and 2.2-4017 of the Code of Virginia, this regulation is undergoing a periodic review. The review of this regulation will be guided by the principles in Executive Order 19 https://TownHall.Virginia.Gov/EO-19-Development-and-Review-of-State-Agency-Regulations.pdf. The purpose of this review is to determine whether this regulation should be repealed, amended, or retained in its current form. Public comment is sought on the review of any issue relating to this regulation, including whether the regulation (i) is necessary for the protection of public health, safety, and welfare or for the economical performance of important governmental functions; (ii) minimizes the economic impact on small businesses in a manner consistent with the stated objectives of applicable law; and (iii) is clearly written and easily understandable. In order for you to receive a response to your comment, your contact information (preferably an email address or, alternatively, a U.S. mailing address) must accompany your comment. Following the close of the public comment period, a report of both reviews will be posted on the Town Hall and a report of the small business impact review will be published in the Virginia Register of Regulations.
The public comment period will be open from February 27 - March 20, 2023.
