The City of Newport News is seeking a Waterworks  Emergency Response Inspector

The Waterworks Emergency Response Inspector is responsible for responding to situations after normal work hours to include weekends and holidays for the Waterworks Department. Day to day, you will respond to after hours emergency and customer service calls to provide technical assistance such as placing meters, turning water off or on, and checking leaks at houseline connection.  You may also receive calls related to the City’s infrastructure such as pipeline, service line, meter, or hydrant leaks.  Basic knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment used for inspections, installations, and repairs of water pipelines will come in handy when you are out in the field on a call! 
 
You will be the main person to complete the investigation and identify your findings to dispatch with a resolution recommendation. It’s critical that we follow the protocol from Underground Utility Damage Prevention Act when locating and assessing various infrastructure. Since you will have interaction with the public and other employees in the department, customer service and communication skills will be essential to performing the job. 
 
There is some administrative work required with this position. You will need to complete various work order reports, inspection reports, time sheets, inventory reports, logs, and other related documentation.
 
How much money can I make?
The salary range for this position is $34-$57k.  Salary ranges are competitive based on qualifications and experience. In addition to salary, the City offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to meet all of our employee’s needs!

What are the qualifications for this position?
This position requires a high school diploma and 3-5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
An acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check and a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record will also be required.
