
Chesterfield County Government is seeking a Utilities Public Information Officer to be responsible for the development and implementation of comprehensive communication strategies to achieve department and county goals.

This position reports to the Director of Utilities and through coordination with the Department of Constituent and Media Services and is responsible for the department’s day-to-day media relations, online web content and social media. Duties include developing a variety of communication products and messages for the director and management, including speeches, news releases, award applications, internal and external communication materials, retirement resolutions, reports, and presentations. Other duties include producing the department's annual performance plan, a variety of department brochures, annual water quality report, bill inserts, serving as editor for the department's monthly newsletter, planning of bi-annual All Staff Meetings and department recognition meetings, and sending department emergency alert notifications. Candidates must be self-motivated, have excellent writing and presentation skills, significant experience writing a variety of different materials, excellent customer service skills, the ability to prioritize projects and work both collaboratively and independently. Perform other work as required. PLEASE NOTE: Position open until filled (first review to begin February 12, 2024).
Successful candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations, and minimum of two years of related experience required; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Three of more years of experience preferred. Experience with media relations, public relations, social media and Microsoft Office Suite required. Current valid driver's license and a good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
