This Utilities Engineer position reports to the Development Section of the Department of Utilities. The Development Team is responsible for the oversight of all land development proposals and the orderly expansion of the county water and wastewater systems. This occurs through these development projects, master planning, and the department's capital projects.

Duties
  • Review the impacts of proposed development on the existing water and wastewater systems
  • Review site and subdivision construction plans, zoning requests, and other community development applications for compliance with county specifications, as well as state and federal requirements
  • Evaluate water distribution and wastewater collection systems using computer hydraulic models, field data, and standard engineering practices
  • Prepare and review reports, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and contracts
  • Interact with the public and collaborate with other agencies, consulting firms, and internal/external customers
  • Host or attend meetings and presentations
  • Use Geographic Information System (GIS) Mapping software to answer public inquiries and collect and interpret system data
  • Use Innovyze (InfoWater) to run hydraulic flow tests, both static and dynamic, of the County water system to provide information for internal and external customers
  • Respond to customer inquiries about extending or connecting to the county water and wastewater systems
  • Additional duties as required
Minimum/Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a related field; three years of engineering experience in water or wastewater systems; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Engineering -In-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) designation preferred. Applicants with less than the minimum qualifications may be considered for a trainee status.  Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.

The hiring range for this position is $68,123 - $91,965 and dependent on experience and qualifications.
