The City of Newport News is seeking a Residuals Facility Operator

As a Residuals Facility Operator, you will be responsible for operating residuals handling and processing facilities, land applying dewatered residuals, and operating the treatment and pump station facilities for the water treatment plant recycle streams.
 
Day to day, you will perform a variety of residuals analysis and tests on centrifuge performance and make process adjustments as necessary. This position will determine required chemical dosages and calibrate chemical feeders while assisting in maintaining inventory of chemicals and other supplies.  You will also collect samples as required to comply with operating permits. You will prepare reports, daily records, and documentation as required.
 
This position will operate, monitor and perform light maintenance work to ensure the efficient performance of a wide range of residuals and recycle treatment equipment such as pumps, industrial centrifuges, polymer feeds, mixers, chemical feed systems, pressure filters and instrumentation control devices.
 
The Residuals Facility Operator will also inspect the condition of motorized equipment to ensure safe operation; follows all safety standards. You will operate a tandem dump truck, front-end loader, land application vehicle, and other motorized equipment as necessary to haul residuals to land application sites and apply de-watered residuals.
 
How much money can I make?
The salary range for this position is $36k-63k.  Salary ranges are competitive based on qualifications and experience.

What are the qualifications for this position?
Requires a high school diploma and 3-5 years of experience in water or wastewater operations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check and a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Must obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) permit prior to employment and complete the practical portion of the CDL test within 60 days of employment.
