To collect water and wastewater samples and perform precise analyses on the samples, prepare proper and legible records, maintain equipment and supplies, and operate the laboratory in a safe, clean, and efficient manner.
Title of Position: LABORATORY TECHNICIAN
Position type: Full-time, Non-Exempt
Qualifications: Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. A Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environment Science or related science field and/or a minimum of three (3) years of related work experience is highly preferred. Familiarity with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and Virginia Health Department water and sewer regulations compliance, and knowledge of Hazardous Material and Hazardous Materials Communications regulations is preferred.
Required skills: Must be able to complete Demonstration of Capability (DOC) for all certified test parameters within six (6) months of hire. Must have the ability to communicate, both verbally and written, and read in English to understand directions and procedures. Must be familiar with computer functions and able to utilize Microsoft Word and Excel programs (Microsoft Office), proficiently operate standard laboratory equipment, and understand basic mathematics to do simple math calculations in the performance of job duties. Must have the ability to multi-task effectively and efficiently, and exhibit a positive attitude. Must possess a valid Driver’s License and have a home phone or cell phone.
