What would a typical day on the job be like — what type of work would I do?

As an Engineering Technician, you would be responsible for designing and modifying various engineering site plans to ensure compliance with established water distribution and design standards within the Waterworks department.  You will be out in the field conducting assessments and field studies for analysis, condition assessment, and research data.
 
One of the most important duties of this position is to prepare drawings, maps, and sketches using the computer aided drafting software.  You will also have the opportunity to participate in the process of proposals, contract bids, project change orders, reviewing documentation and collecting final payments from contractors.
 
Communication will be an important skill in this position, as you will conduct meetings with various stakeholders to include citizens, outside agencies, contractors, or other City employees. This is an exciting opportunity to take your Engineering career to the next level!
 
How much money can I make?
The salary range for this position is $32-$67k depending on the level of Engineering Technician.  Salary ranges are competitive based on qualifications and experience. In addition to salary, the City offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to meet all of our employee’s needs!

There are several levels of Engineering Technician, with Senior being the highest level. There are promotional opportunities to the senior level, supervisory roles or lateral opportunities. What are the qualifications for this position?
There are multiple levels of Engineering Technician, and qualifications vary depending on the level:
Engineering Technician I – Requires an Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology and 1 – 2 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Engineering Technician II - Requires an Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology and 3 – 4 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Engineering Technician III - Requires an Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology and 5 – 6 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
 
An acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check, and a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record will be required.
