The City of Newport News is seeking applicants for the position of Engineering Supervisor - Linear Assets

The Engineer Supervisor is responsible for supervising, oversight, and management of Linear Assets in the distribution, transmission, and source water systems.  
 
You will serve as a project manager on major water utility projects in the Waterworks’ Asset sustainability Division. This is a fast paced position with many moving parts that will require you to have excellent organization and communications skills! You will be responsible for identifying, researching, planning the scope of work, and drafting requests for proposals while also assisting in the selection of contractors.

You will perform complex modeling and analysis to support operations and management decisions while also reviewing distribution system parameters such as water main breaks and customer water quality complaints. You will develop, recommend, and coordinate long-range plans pertaining to pipeline replacement size, asset management, hydraulic modeling and meeting operating goals and objectives. This position also prepares technical reports and documentation, as needed.  
 
The Engineer Supervisor is also responsible for effective supervision, administration, and overall management of a team of employees to include budget preparation, development of capital improvement plans, purchasing and financial transactions, preparation of reports, performance management, employee relations, prioritizing and assigning work. You will also be responsible for performance management, employee relations, and other assigned work. This position serves as liaison and technical expert to federal, state, and local agencies and other City Departments and organizations; keeps abreast of current and future issues and trends. 
 
How much money can I make?
The salary range for this position is $67k-$116k. Salary ranges are competitive based on qualifications and experience. In addition to salary, the City offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to meet all of our employee’s needs!  
 
What are the qualifications for this position?
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field from an accredited college or university and 3 – 5 years of progressively responsible experience and 1 – 2 years of supervisory/lead experience.
 
This position also requires an acceptable general background to include a local and state criminal history check and a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. 
 
Must possess and maintain a current Engineer-in-Training (EIT) license from the Commonwealth of Virginia. A current Professional Engineer (PE) license from the Commonwealth of Virginia is preferred.
