The Engineer III is responsible for complex engineering work involving the planning, design, project management and inspection of a variety of utilities projects within the Waterworks department. Day to day, you will serve as project manager on various natural resource projects throughout the City from start until completion.  You will be identifying, researching and making recommendations on various project needs and plans, drafting proposals and assisting with selecting contractors.  
Engineers prepare, review, and evaluate a variety of different water supply improvements to include demand projections, safe yield evaluations, conservation, drought and water source management, real estate, and stewardship of all natural resources. This is a very exciting opportunity to provide oversight and management on environmental and water related improvement projects for your community.
This position is responsible for a wide range of job responsibilities as a project manager and supervising the project team! By using your Engineering knowledge and experience, you will also prepare cost estimates and budgets, reports, manage employee’s performance, employee relations, and assign work as needed. 
In addition to your daily duties, you will serve as a technical expert in all areas of water resources engineering!  It will be important to provide information related to improvements, projects, programs and activities; keeps abreast of current and future changes and trends related to water resources; may review plans prepared by contractors to ensure compliance with City codes, State regulations, design, and construction standards. 
How much money can I make?
The salary range for the Engineer III position is $63k-$109k annually.  Salary is competitive based on education, qualifications, and experience. In addition to salary, the City offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to meet all of our employee’s needs!

What are the qualifications for this position?
This position requires Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field and 3 - 5 years of progressively responsible experience including project management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The selected candidate must possess and maintain a current Engineer-in-Training (EIT) license or approved equivalency from the Commonwealth of Virginia. A Professional Engineer (PE) certification is preferred.
