Please join us for the second annual planting event! Last year, thanks to many of volunteers, we installed live takes to stabilize the river banks along the rapids on Belle Isle. This year, we decided to continue doing the good work by planting Black Locust on the eastern tip of the island, which can form webs to help mitigate erosion to the river banks along the main trail. In addition, we are going to remove some invasive species like English Ivy and Elaeagnus to promote overall health of the local species on the island.
This is a great learning and community service opportunity that is geared towards improving the local water environment. Planting materials and supplies will be provided by the Richmond Tree Stewards. Meet at the terminus of the pedestrian bridge on Belle Isle. Wear long pants, long sleeves, and a hat. Gloves and tools will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your favorite gloves and pruner. Light lunch will be provided to appreciate your hard work!
