The
Laboratory Practices Committee (LPC), a joint committee
of VA AWWA and the Virginia
Water Environment Association (VWEA) , was formed to
identify and address laboratory issues, promote professionalism
in laboratory practices, and to sponsor a seminar each year
on new and changing laboratory methodologies and requirements.
The LPC provides an incredible resource for sharing information
and expertise in a variety of areas, and networking opportunities
available within the LPC have proven very valuable to the
laboratory community. The seminars and ongoing activities
conducted by the LPC consistently provide a unique and vital
service to the memberships of both VA AWWA and VWEA.
The
LPC's Annual Good Laboratory Practices Seminar presents
current issues and technologies faced by the environmental
laboratory community. Hands-on workshops have been
included with the seminar to provide practical training
that analysts can use in their daily activities. Technical
session topics range from specific analytical issues to
laboratory management interests. Future training opportunities
may include regional workshops and presentations at the
VA AWWA Annual Meeting.
LPC
subcommittees
are also
busy in a
variety of
areas.
The issues that LPC members have been working on include
the Virginia Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program,
laboratory inspection/audits, EPA's ML and MDL proposal
and methods. The LPC also coordinates the Water
Environment Federation's (WEF) Laboratory Analyst
Excellence Award.
