Dedicated to assuring the ample supply of safe and affordable drinking water
to the public through education and training

VA AWWA's extensive training program provides educational and training opportunities for professionals engaged in all aspects of drinking water supply. Each year, VA AWWA provides an array of opportunities designed to benefit professionals involved in all aspects of drinking water supply, such as:

  • treatment operations
  • distribution
  • laboratory and compliance activities
  • maintenance
  • customer service
  • utility management
  • public outreach
  • regulation
  • planning and engineering
  • information technology
  • equipment supply
  • and many others

Conferences, seminars, and hands-on workshops are part of the full slate of educational and training events that VA AWWA offers. Our programs, which have received national recognition, consistently feature experts from across the state and the country. Our Regional Activities Committee also provides accessible and affordable training opportunities throughout the Commonwealth—making it easier for employees of small utilities to get the training they need. In addition to educational programs offered by VA AWWA, we frequently work with AWWA to host teleconferences and national seminars and with other partners, such as the Virginia Department of Health, to offer special programs.

As part of its commitment to education and training, VA AWWA administers a program to provide continuing professional education (CPE) credits to members who participate in qualifying training events. As a result, drinking water professionals throughout the state rely upon the programs offered by VA AWWA for the timely knowledge and skills they need to maintain their certifications and excel in their careers.

Beyond the formal education and training opportunities available through VA AWWA, the Section offers a number of events that provide networking opportunities and contribute to the professional development of the participants. Check out regional activities and events for information on upcoming competitions—such as Top Ops and the Utility Rodeo—and social activities offered by various committees.
