A. General


The Virginia Section presents Awards and Citations in recognition of the outstanding achievement of members or organizations in the water supply field. The Board of Trustees of the Virginia Section is responsible for maintaining and insuring high standards of selection of the Award and Citation recipients.

The guidelines, established by the American Water Works Association for Section awards are presented annually in the AWWA "Officers and Committee Directory" which includes policy statements and official documents of the Association. Article XI, Section 11.6, of the AWWA Governing Documents provides the following guidelines on Section Awards:

1. Section awards are presented in recognition of outstanding achievement in the water supply field. Although it is recognized that Sections may have occasion to recognize members or organizations, certain guidelines are essential to maintain high standards for awards.

2. Special, one-time recognition for a specific occasion would be more properly designated as a "citation" rather than an "award."

3. "Outstanding achievement" is a relative term, and to the extent that increasing numbers of awards are presented, the quality and value of the award concept is diluted.
