Young
Professionals
Objective:
To increase membership and involvement of young professionals
by promoting the value of the Virginia Section - AWWA and to
contribute to the AWWA initiative in this regard. Generally,
this committee will promote student involvement and membership,
seek out continuing education opportunities, establish a mentoring
program with established members of the Association, participate
in the planning and execution of new events and existing events
with other Section committees, and develop new opportunities
for young professionals.
Membership:
Young professionals are generally considered to be members
or prospective members under 35, including but not limited to,
those individuals working for utilities, regulatory agencies,
consulting firms, or academic institutions. AWWA considers all
of its members to be water industry professionals.
Duties:
Committee Chair
a. Select a sub-committee comprised of VA Section
members with the objective of regional representation.
b. Personally contact each sub-committee member
to verify that he/she will participate in committee events.
c. Work with other committee chairs to enhance
young professional involvement within those committees.
d. Ensure all sub-committee members are active.
e. Adhere to guidelines set forth in the general
policies for committees (Section IIIA of the Handbook).
Committee
a. Develop programs of interest to young professionals
in the drinking water industry.
b. Promote the benefits of membership in AWWA by
increasing opportunities for participation and career development.
c. Identify younger industry members who can be
encouraged to take an active leadership role in the Association.
d. Develop strategies for young professionals which
work towards the applicable goals of the Virginia Section strategic
plan, more specifically:
Increase and retain membership, and improve diversity
Promote education, training, and technology exchange programs
Support the AWWA strategic plan
Respond to water industry changes and challenges
Promote professional development
