Committee
Objective:
To plan and coordinate the publication of a quarterly newsletter.
Membership:
The Chair of this committee is appointed by the VA Section
Board of Trustees and is also the Editor of the Newsletter.
Other committee members are recommended by the Chair of the
committee and approved by the VA Section Chair.
Member of:
Education and Public Affairs Council
Duties:
Duties of the chair are as follows:
a. Select an committee of VA Section members who
are willing to serve on the committee. In the selection process,
consideration should be given to geographic distribution and
employment (e.g., large or small utility, consultant, etc.)
of the committee members to assure variation in points of view
and ability to suggest and gather articles for the newsletter.
b. Compile all necessary information required for
the publication of a quarterly Newsletter, including graphics.
c. Solicit business-card advertisements for the
Newsletter and coordinate payment for and publication of ads.
d. Coordinate payment for and publication of ads.
e. Coordinate the editing/layout and printing arrangements
for the newsletter.
f. Provide or arrange for a photographic record
of the annual meeting. Photographic records should be taken
of, but not limited to:
The Board of Trustees and the Section Administrator
Select individual speakers and/or panel members
Major local and national award recipients (Fuller, Distinguished
Service,
Operator of the Year, Membership, Tapping Contest winners,
Best
Student Paper, Life Member, Honorary Member, Gold Water Drop,
etc.)
Other social and technical functions, as required
g. Maintain editor's notebooks, including advertising
records, policies and procedures, contacts/news, and historical
records of past Newsletters.
h. Adhere to guidelines set forth in the general
policies for committees (Section IIIA of the Handbook).
Duties of the committee members
are as follows:
a. Keep abreast of activities that are of interest
to the Section and report them as soon as possible to the committee
chair.
b. Furnish the committee chair with items of interest
for publication, including potential articles and graphics or
photographs.
c. Participate in newsletter planning meetings
and help identify newsletter themes and potential sources for
articles.
d. Serve as liaisons to other Section committees.
e. Solicit advertisements for the Newsletter.
f. Assist the committee chair as required on specific
assignments.
