Education Committee


Objective:

To identify, coordinate, promote and sponsor educational activities of the VA Section.

Membership:

The Chair of this committee is appointed by the VA Section Board of Trustees. Other committee members are recommended by the Chair of the committee and appointed by the VA Section Chair.

Education and Public Affairs Council

Duties:

     The following duties are assigned to this committee Chair:

a.   Recommend committee members to the VA Section Chair for appointment.

b.   Keep a good, working committee with all members active.

c.   Maintain personal contact with all members.

d.   Provide the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of all committee members to the VA Section Secretary at the winter Board of Trustees meeting.

e.   The committee shall meet at least two times a year, in the winter and during the annual meeting.

f.   Present an annual report at the annual meeting including suggestions for future VA Section educational activities.

g.   Present reports as required at the Board of Trustees meetings.

     The following duties are assigned to this committee:

a.   Prepare an annual calendar of educational opportunities of interest to VA  Section members. This should be prepared initially for the coming calendar  year by the end of December each year, and updated as necessary. The Education Committee Chair and the Council Trustee are responsible for the compilation and distribution of the calendar to the members of the VA Section. If necessary, the calendar shall be distributed by mail and no later than the second week in January.

b.   Solicit input from VA Section members about educational opportunities they want and need.

c.   Act as an overall coordinator for educational activities of other VA Section committees, national AWWA, the State Health Department, the Department of Environmental Quality , and educational institutions. Maintain liaison with the education committees of the Virginia Water Environment Association and the Virginia-District of Columbia-Maryland Chapter of the American Public Works Association.

d.   Advise all of the above organizations of educational opportunities of the VA Section.

e.   Work to obtain a wide geographic distribution of educational opportunities, partnering when appropriate with the Regional Activities Committee.

f.   Identify, sponsor, and conduct, as necessary, educational programs on topics of special interest to the VA Section.

g.   Under normal circumstances, all educational activities of other VA Section committees should be cleared for scheduling through this committee before presentation to the Board of Trustees for final approval.

h.   Submit an attendance list of educational activities to the Membership Chair for new member recruiting.

i.   Coordinate all activities with the Education Department of AWWA. Make use of available AWWA seminars, course material and publications when necessary.

j.   Endeavor to include small systems needs in educational programs of the VA Section.
