Accident Prevention & Safety Committee

Objective:

To plan and coordinate efforts to stimulate the establishment of safety programs where none exist, keep already organized programs operating at a high degree of efficiency, and give recognition to utilities having good safety records or showing substantial improvement.

Membership:

This is a joint committee. As such, members must be members of either VA AWWA or VWEA . The committee will consist of a chairperson and vice-chairperson appointed by the VA AWWA Chair and the VWEA President for a term of 18 months, as well as other members that are commended by the committee chair.

Education and Public Affairs Council

Duties:

     The following duties are assigned to the committee Chair:

a.   Select and recommend committee members to the Board of Trustees for  appointment.

b.   Personally contact each committee member to ascertain that he/she will  serve.

c.   Maintain a strong working committee with all members active on their  individual assignments.

d.   Provide the names, addresses and telephone numbers of all Committee members to the Secretary and Second Trustee at the winter Board of Trustees meeting.

e.   Present an annual report at the annual meeting, including proposed future program topics.

f.   Present reports (including budget, if required) at the Board of Trustees winter meeting.

g.   Present other reports as required by the Board of Trustees.

h.     Solicit input from VA Section members concerning safety programs they want and need.

i.     Identify, sponsor, and conduct, as necessary, safety programs containing topics as required within the VA Section.

j.     Work to obtain as wide a geographical distribution of safety program opportunities as possible.

k.   Under normal circumstances, all activities of the committee shall be cleared for scheduling and content by the Education Committee prior to submission to the Board of Trustees for final approval.

l.   Coordinate safety program opportunities of interest to section members for inclusion in the Education Committee calendar.

m.   Work to include small systems needs in safety programs of the VA Section.   

n.   Present safety awards at the annual meeting.
