Chair
The Virginia Section By-Laws state "the Chair shall have general
supervision over the affairs of the VA Section, and shall preside
at all meetings of the VA Section and Board of Trustees at which
he/she may be present." The Chair's position as leader of the
Virginia Section also requires that he/she (or his/her designated
representative, who normally would be the Chair-Elect) shall represent
the Virginia Section and be its spokesperson on matters of principle,
policy, or purposes for which the AWWA was organized and which are
within the Virginia Section's area of jurisdiction.
The duties and responsibilities of the Chair shall begin with
the last day of the annual meeting at which he/she is elected
and ending at the last official function on the next to last day
of the next annual meeting or as delineated in Section 7.4.7 of
the Section By-laws.
The following duties are listed as a guide to assist the Chair
in discharging his/her responsibilities:
1. Become acquainted with the organization and governing
documents of the American Water Works Association, the Virginia
Section By-Laws and the Virginia Section Officers and Committee
Chair Handbook (the “Bluebook”).
2. Preside at all business meetings of the Virginia
Section.
3. Act as Chair of, and preside at, all meetings
of the Board of Trustees.
4. Call at least three meetings of the Board of Trustees
during the year, giving the Board members at least 14 days' notice.
5. Consult with each committee Chair concerning the
selection of members to serve on Virginia Section committees.
The appointment of committee members is the responsibility of
the Virginia Section Chair, but the Committee Chair should make
recommendations to the Virginia Section Chair.
6. Serve as an ex-officio member of any committee
as may be deemed desirable or necessary.
7. Recommend additional committees as needed.
8. Send copies of all correspondence to the Chair-Elect
and the Secretary.
9. Should the chair be unable to preside or serve
as Chair at any meeting or function, he/she shall appoint a representative
to serve in his/her place who should be the Chair-Elect or, in
case he/she cannot serve, another Trustee.
10. Shall make charge in writing to the various committee
Chairs outlining to them the objectives of their committees; Shall
also give specific directions as to procedures insofar as such
direction may be helpful in securing uniformity of policy and
purpose of the Virginia Section as a whole, and efficiency of
accomplishment.
11. Shall present AWWA honors and awards to the Virginia
Section recipients if the appropriate AWWA officer or the Virginia
Section Director is not available to perform the ceremony.
12. Shall present Virginia Section honors and awards
as necessary. |
