We believe everyone should expect to have safe water every day. We want to help them reach that goal, for every family, every clinic, and every school in the regions and districts where we work. Water For People helps people in developing countries improve their quality of life by supporting the development of locally sustainable drinking water resources, sanitation facilities, and hygiene education programs.

Talented, skilled, and committed professionals are increasingly challenging to find. Positions in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields are continuing to grow surpassing the number of STEM graduates entering the job market which leaves organizations struggling to keep up with the hiring of STEM professionals and filling much needed positions. Based on data from the National Center for Education Statistics, the Educational Testing Service (ETS) estimates that, in 2019 and 2020, 49% of all STEM master’s degrees and 57% of all STEM doctorate degrees were conferred to international students. International students and foreign-born professionals in the US workforce expand the pool of qualified candidates for highly skilled positions. More importantly, highly qualified individuals are valuable assets for any organization to grow and provide their service.

The Leading One Water Focus Group of the VWEA | VA AWWA Utility Management Committee invites you to a webinar on the work of Colorado State University’s One Water Solutions Institute with the Water Research Foundation. Cities throughout the world are transitioning toward the One Water approach to improve efficiency and reduce costs while addressing climate change impacts, extreme weather event resiliency, social equity, and environmental justice. This research aimed to help utilities and municipalities identify effective strategies and viable technological, policy, institutional, and financial pathways toward One Water. Specifically, the project created a rating framework and guidebook with key elements, indicators, and benchmarks to assess the progression toward One Water communities by considering benefits, co-benefits, and competing trade-offs. The rating framework explicitly includes information on policy, institutional, legal, financial, and technical factors that provide bridges or inhibit progress toward One Water Cities.
SpeakerDr. Mazdak Arabi is the Borland Endowed Professor of Water Resources in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Colorado State University and is also the Director of the One Water Solutions Institute (OWSI). His research, education, and engagement activities focus on the development of scientific approaches and analysis tools that enable integrated water resource management in a changing world. His primary expertise includes hydrologic assessment, watershed modeling, water quality control, and system identification and optimization. The mission of OWSI is to solve real-world water challenges via cutting-edge research and innovation. The institute coordinates synergistic activities and products of several research consortiums, including the Urban Water Innovation Network (UWIN), CLEAN Nutrient Center, and Water & Climate Center.
